Hexa X Powers Provisions

Meet Gretchen Powers -

She grew up in the mountains of Vermont and Colorado with her four siblings and a handful of dogs cross country skiing, reading, taking pictures and crafting.  Shortly after graduating she moved to Portland, Maine where started her own freelance filmmaking and photography business while working at a tea shop. While she began her career with an array of work from weddings to portraits to commercial clients, she now loves that she specializes in outdoor lifestyle storytelling for many of her favorite outdoor brands.

While in Maine, she also fell in love with rock climbing, challenging her fear of heights, kayaking and swimming in freezing cold water. Little did she know this would be great preparation for her 2017 move to Kodiak, Alaska. She continues to be inspired by the wild places around her and the way people interact with them.

While in Alaska, Gretchen started her own business - Powers Provisions.

“Powers Provisions believes in supporting artists, cultivating community with other makers, and inspiring folks to get out and explore their surroundings with a cuppa tea or whiskey in hand.  We believe in investing in high quality goods that will last a long time. We care about where we source our materials from and try to shop as small and local as possible for beads, yarns, metals and such that Gretchen uses to craft her hats and jewelry.”

Inspired by the mountains of Kodiak and the golden hour of Hawaii — Gretchen designed a jacket that allows her to take these nostalgic hues of blue and yellow with her where ever she goes.

“Whether it's the sun rising over the Mokulua Islands off the coast of Oahu or the glacial blue streams that cut through autumn foliage in Alaska, I love the way the cerulean blues contrast with the sunny, bright oranges and yellows.”

She has designed this color palette in a way that flows together elegantly combining Shaded Spruce and Caneel Bay as the centerpiece and Saffron Yellow for some inside pop.

Gretchen is not only an incredible creative but also the owner of Powers Provisions — a company cultivating a community with artists and makers to inspire folks to get out and explore.
